Explore the Wild & Scenic Allegheny and Clarion rivers and Cook Forest State Park- “America’s Best Old-Growth Forest”.

Marienville

Marienville is the gateway to the Allegheny National Forest and its hundreds Marienville of miles of trails for ATV, snowmobiles, hiking, and horseback riding. Each May and October, nearly 1,000 ATV enthusiasts come to Marienville for Tour-De-Forest, an organized leisure ride. The annual Winter Festival features an inspiring snowmobile torchlight parade. Nature lovers flock to Buzzard Swamp for spectacular wildlife and bird watching, including bald eagle and osprey.

Tionesta

Tionesta is a charming town located on the banks of the Wild & Scenic Allegheny River. The Market Village is a must-see attraction that offers shoppers a collection of local merchants offering a variety of handmade treasures. Early summer, is Firefly season when the night is fielded with a spectacular synchronized light show in the Allegheny National Forest. Each July, cowboys and cowgirls compete in the 3-night outdoor Allegheny Mountain Championship Rodeo. The town’s Native American heritage is celebrated each August with the Tionesta Indian Festival. Tionesta boasts Pennsylvania’s only in-land functioning lighthouse, which is open for tours several times per year.

Cook Forest State Park gives visitors the chance to explore ancient stands of giant trees. Men’s Journal called it “America’s Best Old-Growth Forest”. The Clarion River flows through the park and is popular with both paddlers and fishermen. Seneca Point and the nearby fire tower offer spectacular views of river valley below. The area surrounding the park has many vacation rentals, restaurants, shops, and fun attractions to enjoy.

Allegheny National Forest

The Allegheny National Forest boasts over a half-million acres of public land with hundreds of miles of trails designated for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ATV, and horseback riding.  Visitors can also enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, and camping. Some of the popular trails in Forest County include the Marienville & Timberline ATV trails, Spring Creek Horse Trail, North Country Trail, and Minister Creek Trail.
